Twitter is a ‘great way to make connections,’ student says
Here is another installment of my occasional series: “What the Heck do You Do on Twitter?” Be sure to read the whole series, especially if you’re new to Twitter.
And if you’d like to be featured, e-mail me at savethemedia@yahoo.com or direct message me on Twitter.
Today’s featured Twitter user is Christen Brandt, a magazine journalism and English textual studies major at Syracuse University.
How long have you been on Twitter? About 6 months
Why did you get started? I originally used it as a way to collect news – I only followed news sources such as CNN, The New York Times, Newser, etc.
Did it end up being different than you expected? I didn’t expect as much interactivity as there is. Twitter is a great way to make connections and share links of interest; originally, I didn’t see that.
How much time do you spent on Twitter daily? How many days a week do you log on? I probably spend a collective two hours on Twitter each day, and I log in everyday. It seems like an awful lot of my time now that I calculate the total hours I spend on the site per week!
What is the primary reason you use Twitter? Now, I use Twitter to share links, find articles of interest, make new connections, and stay up to date on breaking news.
Do you mainly follow people you know in the face-to-face world, strangers, or a little bit of both? Anything else you like to add about your Twitter use? I follow both people I know and strangers, though the strangers are all people associated with my interests. Many are columnists or editors at my favorite publications; others are in charge of great nonprofits.
