Journalist bloggers need to become Internet marketers
When I started blogging, little did I know that I know that I’d need to become an Internet marketer. As a blogger, you need to let people know you’re there. As a journalist, that can seem weird. We’re used to be being behind the scenes — behind the notebook or camera — not out there telling people how great we are.
But if you want your blog to succeed, you need to become at least a bit of a marketer. Your colleagues may think it’s odd; but you need to promote your blog with friends, relatives, through social media, through Twitter, through any way you can think of. I talk about how to do that today in a guest blog on Linkers Blog. I hope you’ll check it out.
I'm Gina Chen, a 20-year veteran newspaper journalist who is studying for a communications Ph.D. I want to see journalism survive. I believe news organizations need to embrace new media, change their thinking, improve their content and innovate. Read more about me

It’s like a movie that needs viewers, or a song that needs to be heard; bloggers are constantly hoping for more readership, unless he/she likes to go private with their blogs. I’m facsinated with what social media can do these days, will constantly on the lookout of its updates. It took me days to find these apps
to enhance my Twitter network. Tough job, but it’s all worth it. Hope it’ll help others as well.
Keep the good posts coming.

[...] Journalist bloggers need to become Internet marketers – This isn’t blasphemy, it’s the truth. If you’re not willing to market yourself, you’ll never become a successful blogger. You have to let people know about your work, get on social media, post on other people’s blogs and link back to yourself. That’s how it’s done: When I started blogging, little did I know that I know that I’d need to become an Internet marketer. As a blogger, you need to let people know you’re there. As a journalist, that can seem weird. We’re used to be being behind the scenes — behind the notebook or camera — not out there telling people how great we are. [...]

Ching-Ya,
Thanks .. I like your analogy to music or a movie.
Very true. If you create a song and no one can hear it, you benefit only yourself. That can be amazing. But how much more amazing if others can share it.
